Barron Storey: Factum 1 | Factum 2

Robert Rauschenberg brilliantly demonstrated facts about art and perception half a century ago by painting two nearly identical abstractions. The beauty and intelligence of these challenged common assumptions. Later on, the photorealists addressed another challenge: Can the unpaintable be painted? Adopting a process that was in some ways a preview of the digital age, these artists achieved that goal with success that was often amazing and always fascinating to me.
Storey’s Factum 1 | Factum 2 is profoundly influenced by both. Inspired by the “Factums” and the photorealist process, Storey embarked on a project combining digital images of past work with current paintings of them. Proportions were changed, meanings evolved. The repetition allowed Storey to see the complex elements of the overlapping digital combined in ways reminiscent of that original Factum moment.
Factum 1 | Factum 2 opens this weekend at Bert Green Fine Art, with a show catalog and poster also available.

Lined in Lead II
Eidolon Fine Arts, in partnership with Gallery Nucleus, is very pleased to present Lined in Lead II, an exhibition of works is graphite, opening this weekend.
All too often graphite is considered to be means to an end by way of sketches and studies, not the end itself. In truth, graphite possesses every facet necessary to fully realize an inspiring and finished work of art. Its simplicity is sublime and its versatility exciting.
Lined in Lead II features a carefully selected group of exceptional artists exhibiting their mastery of the medium. Beyond the expert technique employed and experimental execution of technique, this stunning collection is proof that works in graphite posses all of the timeless qualities of other media. Some works embrace tranquility, while others are disquieting. Some are hauntingly poetic, while still others evoke a primal urge, but all featured works captivate with a subtlety that no other medium can convey.
Lined in Lead features new works from Wesley Burt, Alexandre Day, Andrew Hem, Rodrigo Luff, Soey Milk, Keita Morimoto, Karla Ortiz, João Ruas, Brooks Salzwedel, Barron Storey, Edwin Ushiro, Allen Williams and Michael Zulli. Several of the exhibiting artist will be in attendance for the opening, as well as print releases for João Ruas and Soey Milk. We hope to see you there!
